help needed immidiately! Can't Post

hello,
i have been interested in yoga/meditation for more than three years. I've
read many books, taken some meditation sessions and practised almost
all sort of meditations but the problem is i am very irregular. I start
a mediation, do it for 15 days and discontinue it. again, I get
interested in other one, start it and leave it likewise after 'seeing no
result'. This has been a habit of mine and i know it's to be eliminated
but i don't know why i'm unable.
I am now practising a meditation called-'practising the presence' which
resembles somewhat like mindfulness meditation. IT is described in a free
online book at 'www.realhealing.com'. IT is a very basic one but it starts
in a very boring manner. This is one of the main reasons why i quit meditations
after few days. Although it has been described as a powerful one and able to
bring results in few days, I'm not seeing any results. Due to lack of time, I've
to do this meditation around 10 pm when I feel tired and mentally stressed(due to
the past and future worries). Also, I'm attacked by many thoughts which i cannot
avoid easily and get drifted by these, especially the thoughts are-what i've been
thinking about just before meditation, the past regrets, future worries, the duration
i've to sit for meditation etc.
Now, my questions are - Should i continue with the meditation i described or switch to
other if i do not see any changes? What should i do to best avoid worries/fears/troubles/
irrational thinkings during meditation? How to have enough perseverance to sit for a given
duration daily when the meditation becomes monotonous and just appear as a waste of time?
Can I do another meditation after I finish the meditation and retire to sleep(in sleeping
posture). If I can, I need one as soon as possible because i'm having a stage program after
about 4-5 days and I need to avoid stage fright. Do you have any effective suggestions?
The above lines may seem very boring to you all but i need an effective solution very soon
(if possible by tomorrow) mainly to avoid the stage fear and next to employ meditation
for some effective change in my life. IT would be the greatest help by anyone in my life
except the God.

Hi there,

this is probably too late to be of any use to you by now and seeing as I have no qualification to teach meditation I can only offer you a few personal opinions.

First of all it is perfectly normal to come across all the obstacles you are experiences as this is probably what everone goes through at some time or other. When you meditate the egoic mind seems to want to do everything it can to stop you achieving your aim. Feelings of frustration or boredom are very common and the feeling that we don't seem to be achieving anything as well. But what I've noticed about 'results' of meditation is that they come so slowly that we don't even realise we are achieving anything until we look back at how we were a year or two ago or whatever. Then we find that we are maybe a lot more calm and relaxed or tend not to get as angry or depressed. Feelings of gratitude to be alive can also be another 'result' of meditation but like all great things in life they come very slowly. Not being the most patient person in the world myself I would often wonder if it was worth it or not but I can honestly say now that I couldn't live without meditation in my life. So I guess the only advice I can really give you is to stick to a very basic technique (such as awareness of the breath) and stay with it through all the doubts and distractions. If anything negative arises just try to observe the feeling or feelings objectively until they pass. And they will pass if you stay as 'present' as you can and be patient. The patience you develop from this may end up being the greatest gift you will receive from your practice. Good luck.
