Building core strength? Can't Post

Thought I would make a start to some Yoga related discussion.

Anyway, there are many asanas that help build core strength. I curious about what do I really need to practice to build core strength? What is most important? How do I get the most benefit out of the limited time available?

Does anyone have experience with Agni sara? In classes that I have done, it never has be practiced.

The latest issue of Yoga Journal discusses the use of Pilates to develop core strength. I tried the exercises they recommend and I will definitely incorporate them into my regular practice. The effect was almost instant. I will photocopy the article and bring it into class next week.

In response to building core strength- I have found heaps of poses in Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha which would help. I have actually done all of them in a pilates class, but rarely in a yoga class, eg- Ardha Shalabhasana (pilates calls it 'swimming'), and Chakra Padasana (aka leg circles). I also find that drawing in lower belly muscles and pelvic floor during practice, brings my attention to that area and I tend to work from there, especially during balance asanas and inversions- helps me feel more centered and balanced emotionally. Also in ashtanga class when working with Uddiyana Bandha.

I have curious about pilates for some time, and I would be really interested in looking at the information about building core strength.
