Trikonasana Can't Post

Greetings,

I am revisiting Trikonasana as I do this pose. Even though I feel I am a fairly advanced asana practioner, there is no end to the challenge of Trikonasana! I definitely rank it as one of the harder poses for me mentally, even though it is usually found in a beginner yoga class. Does anybody else feel this way about the pose?

The main question I have is the with the rear leg. The front leg is externally rotating, so the front knee is in alignment with the toes... Should the back leg be externally rotating as well? I feel like it should be... but a friend/yoga teacher said that she externally rotates the rear leg, while taking the rear hip point forward a little bit. very hard for me to feel that one... so i wanted to throw the question out there.

all suggestions welcome.

Namaste,

Rod

Re: [Rod] Trikonasana [In reply to] Can't Post

I have alot of trouble with Trikonasana pose too. I have trouble because I have spent most of my life locking back in my knees and though I don't do it anymore I find the temtation is very stong in trikonsana because I don't have very good upper leg strenth due to the fact that I have always locked back in my knees.
Kind of a bad circle to get into and is taking alot of hard work to brake. I do feal good though when I do hold it, so I guess that something.

I loved Gemmas trikonasana when she deminstrated to the class, she has wonderfull body alinment.

Re: [Bonnie] Trikonasana [In reply to] Can't Post

I've become super aware about keeping my body in the same plane as my legs. As a result I'm now barely able to reach my knee with my hand and it feels quite uncomfortable because it is in effect an extreme lateral bend. I think I'm being a bit too paranoid about avoiding any sort of twist in my spine. How much spine twist should we be experiencing? I think it's a shame that it's been so long since our last Asana class because I'm sure lots of us have these sorts of questions.

Spine should twist so much that you are able to keep your arms straight - one hand in heaven and the other in earth :)For me trikonasana is easier when i spread my legs more than most people do when practising trikonasana.
