frowning and brow furrowing when do yoga poses Can't Post

The ideal way to practice the Hatha Yoga poses (asanas) is to approach the practice session in a calm, meditative mood without tension. But, as I was reminded of yesterday during class, is that one of my weaknesses is frowning and brow furrowing, holding unnecessary tension in the face.

Any ideas/ suggestions on how to minimise this.

Namaste,

Rod

I've discovered a new technique, but I must say I'm far from consistent in using it. I was trying to feel strength in posture but without effort. I visualised relaxing or physically unclenching my brain. This had the effect of bringing calm and releasing mental blocks I was holding to the pose, whilst grounding my energy and bringing extra strength. It was a nice feeling but something I find very difficult to maintain.

I try to have a sense of spreading my forehead - sort of like the sense of spreading your feet in tadasana, but it's a bit trickier because theres not the resistance of the floor to work against. It works for me and it makes me feel instantly calmer in the mind. Hopefully might delay the need for Botox for a few years as well! (but I'm not attached to that as an outcome of course!!)

The asana teachers at the Vivekananda Ashram in Bangalore use to say, in every asana class... (please read with a strong Indian accent for effect) "keep a beautiful smile on your face". Might make you look a little goofy, but sure makes class a lot more fun!
