breathing through one nostril Can't Post

Sometimes when I meditate I breathe through one nostril only for a while and then change to the other but I do this without physically blocking a nostril with my fingers. I was telling a non yoga friend about that and she thought that was strange, but I have never discussed this with any yoga enthusiasts. I spontaneously taught myself to do it - so Im not sure if there is any benefit - though I suspect it would activate the Ida and Pingala channels. Any experiences out there to share?

I don't know I just do it! - I have to be reasonably relaxed to do it - I can't just do it when I'm driving a car or working (probably a good thing). I think visualising it happening helps, but I dont know exactly what I do physically to make it happen. :)

I've done that too, In Savasana I was told to focus on feeling the breath on the rims of the nostrils and I started to see if I could swap them around or use both in equal force- as a little game to play instead of emptying my mind.
Also, has anyone else heard the Ida and Pingala channels referred to as the Ha and Tha channels - or am I thinking of something else?

I have not actually herd that no, though it does make sence because one is sun and one is moon and ida and Pingala represent the sun and the moon.

I spoke to one of the second years about breathing through one nostral with out physically blocking it. She said it is done quite often and a good way of helping you learn to do it is to trace the path with your finger up one side and down the other, makeing a little triangle type of shape over your nose.
