DESPERATELY NEED HELP Can't Post

Hi

This post might not be appropriate for this forum. I am posting just with the hope that someone may reply.

I am a graduate student in an american university. I have been practicing yoga on and off. I have heard about the positive results that yoga can have on one's life.

I have been addictied to porn and masterbation and it is slowly destroying my life. I no longer am as energetic or enthusiastic about my daily work. My
daily life is being affected. In addition to feeling physically week, I also seem to have lost my concentration . My memory also is failing.

Can Yoga be used to cure such addictions. I am desperate to change , but do not seem to overcome this problem. Is there some yoga theraphy for it.

Thanx

Re: [rahul] DESPERATELY NEED HELP [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Rahul,
I can only comment on my personal experience of yoga and trying to cut back on alcohol, which was starting to dominate my life around ten years ago. I've found there's no magic, specific therapy as such, but that yoga has been really beneficial in deepening my self-awareness, and in doing so has gradually allowed the addictive behaviours to lessen over time. In the past year I've gone more deeply into understanding Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. I've found the description of the 8 paths really useful in giving a broader context to my practice, and a better understanding of the connection with meditation. If I stuff up, I try to bring awareness and compassion to my behaviour, rather than actively trying to change things externally.
Hope this is useful, namaste, Carolyn.

These simple mudras and asanas could help though they are not complete solution for your problem. i have tried them because i had a same problem. Do you know shaktichalanimudra, aswinimudra, mulabandha and brahmacaryasana? If not find out how these exercises are done CORRECTLY. Ask your yoga teacher or if you don't have any from books or even internet. These practices mainly concentrates on doing pelvic floor contraction in different ways and intensities. Easy way to start is to begin doing regular mulabandha. These exercises are said to direct the sexual energy upwards in physical body and also in mental body which in this case would lessen the urge to have sex.
